St. Vincent's College raises scholarship money

The 3rd Annual John J. Lawrence MD Memorial Golf Tournament raised over $19,000 that will directly benefit the St. Vincent’s College Student Nursing Scholarship Fund.

The college is in Bridgeport. The event was held at Mill River Country Club in Stratford.

"This event provides essential financial support for students who want to pursue a career in health care but who do not have the resources to fund their education on their own," Christie Boronico, dean of students at the college said in a prepared statement. "Thanks to this scholarship fund, we were able to award $20,000 to seven deserving students last year. Without the generosity of tournament golfers and other donors, that would never have been possible. For that we are incredibly thankful."

The Fall 2014 class at St. Vincent's College had an average family income of $55,526 and 38 percent had a family income below $25,000. Their need for financial assistance typically surpasses the College's ability to provide more than a portion of the funding needed.
