CENSUS 2010
As 2010 Census partners, CCIC member colleges and universities are committed to making sure that students understand the importance of participating in the census and ensuring that no one is left uncounted.
Key Details:
- What: The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States
- Who: All U.S. residents, both citizens and non-citizens, must be counted. Students are counted in the town in which they live and sleep most of the year. For most students, this will be the town that houses their on or off-campus residence.
- When: Census Day is April 1, 2010.
- Why: The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years. The census will show state population counts and determine representation in the U.S. House of Representatives and allocation of funding to states and towns.
- Time: There are only 10 questions that should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
- Confidentiality: By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's census questionnaire responses with anyone, including other governmental agencies, courts, and law enforcement entities.
