"What is Risk Management" and "Student Activities and Domestic and International Travel"
Sonya Hope and William Granahan, Albert Risk Management Consultants, Mass. Part one includes the textbook definition of and steps involved in Risk Management in an overall sense and real world applications in a university environment. There is a review of what the risks are, how to identify and approach them and who needs to be involved along with the resources available to assist. Part two addresses the risks involved in student activities and special risks from travel (local, regional, domestic or international); risk management steps and resources available.

Session II - Campus Safety, Security, and Accident Investigation
Ramon Rosario, Campus Safety Officer, Trinity College; Louise Cobbs, Claims Counsel and Kim Nimmo, Risk Management Consultant, United Educators. This session covers chemicals and weapons on campus, how to identify them; symptoms of chemical exposure; clean up efforts - who to call, what to wear, and evacuation. The second part of the session covers accident investigation.

Session III - Transportation/Fleet Safety and Environmental Safety Travel

Petty, Consulting Services Manager - Principal Environmental Compliance Advisor of Triumvirate Environmental; Peter LeMay, Assistant Risk Manager, Loss Control and Facilities Risk Management, Yale University. Session three reviews general transportation safety including defensive driving, accident prevention, use of university vehicles for passenger transport, commercial driver's license, fleet maintenance and insurance along with use of personal vehicle for transport of hazmats.

Session IV - D & O Insurance and Legal Issues
James F. Kief, CPCU, Senior Vice President, Webster Insurance; Attorney Aaron S. Bayer, Partner, Wiggin & Dana. Session four covers current issues in non-profit governance as well as D&O insurance issues. Topics covered: the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on non-profit organizations, conflict of interest policies, whistleblower protection, document retention/destruction policies, Audit Committee requirements, and IRS requirements concerning executive compensation, trustees' conflicting interest transactions, limits on liability and indemnification of trustees, the D&O insurance marketplace, maximizing the underwriting of such policies, responding to D&O claims, and positioning your institution so that it can best avoid such claims.

Session V - Bid Specs for Insurance - how do you prepare an RFP?
Elizabeth J. Carmichael, CPCU, Risk Manager for Five Colleges, Inc.; John Lochner, Principal Towers Perrin. Bidding Insurance/Brokerage Services. This session addresses two common ways of bidding out one's property/casualty insurance program: (1) the conceptual broker selection process and (2) the open competitive insurance remarketing process. It outlines both approaches, identifies key issues to address, and discusses the pros and cons of each.

Session seven discussion points: Overview of the student insurance marketplace - who are the main players, consolidation of the marketplace, etc.; Specific policy/benefit trends; Service trends - online enrollments, student self-service, etc.; National trends - greater need for coverage for students due to increase in uninsured, etc.
