Description:
Many typical modes of instruction feature one teacher with many students, but teaching collaboratively can enrich the classroom experience for everyone. This approach is not without challenges, however, so the focus of our program is to closely examine what it means to teach with someone else as a partner or a mentor.
Following a keynote address by Graduate School Dean Jon Butler, there will be a panel discussion featuring pairs of collaborators who have crossed disciplinary lines to teach together. A second panel will explore collaboration as a mentorship experience, specifically between faculty members and the teaching assistants working with them. Participants will learn what effect collaborations have had for teachers and their classroom, what some of the successes and challenges have been, and what lessons the panelists have learned.
